BEXLEY Council used emergency powers to shut down a bar and restaurant after more than 100 youths, some armed with knives, caused a serious disturbance.
An licensing sub-committee meeting suspended the licence at Sankofa House in Station Road, Belvedere.
Bexley police had already asked for a review of the restaurant’s licence, claiming it was breaking its licensing conditions and staying open after hours.
But things came to on August 11 when police were called to a gang-related disturbance involving more than 100 youths from Peckham and Deptford.
Two arrests were made for possession of a knife and possession of drugs.
Other discarded knives and drugs were found by police.
The licensing committee expressed concern the restaurant was still advertising music nights extending beyond its opening hours, despite a condition that only people enjoying a substantial meal or attending a function could buy alcohol.
The restaurant’s licence was suspended from midnight on August 12, pending a full review.
