A MUSICAL set in the 1960s has proved a hit with schoolchildren in Bexley.
Youngsters from Slade Green Junior School and Northumberland Heath and Peareswood primary schools were invited to a preview of the musical Hairspray, performed by pupils at Erith School in Avenue Road, Erith.
The preview was a final run-through of the production before it played to a sell-out audience at each of three performances, all of which received standing ovations.
Altogether, 130 pupils and staff were involved in the production, from scenery to costumes and the school band, which provided all the music.
It was one of the school’s largest productions and took several months of rehearsals.
Pupils of all ages tried out at auditions for a role.
