Bexley Council has ruled out holding the Danson Festival every other year rather than cancelling it altogether.
Councillor Don Massey, cabinet member for community safety and leisure, announced last month his decision to suspend the festival.
Poor ground conditions were blamed for the move, which put a stop to the July event which annually attracts more than 60,000 people.
At a full meeting of Bexley Council on April 30, Coun Massey was asked by Labour Councillor Alan Deadman whether he might consider holding the festival once every two years.
Coun Massey replied: "I don’t agree that would address the problems we have at the moment.
"Danson Park requires considerable investment whether the festival is held annually or every other year.
"The works that need to be undertaken are substantial requiring significant financial investment.
"Without this investment Danson Park is not able to support a festival either annually or every two years."
