A CAFE set up in memory of murdered teenager Jimmy Mizen will now offer a safe haven for young people in trouble.
Jimmy’s family set up the Cafe of Good Hope in Hither Green Lane last year in a bid to spread a positive message and provide a hub for youth activities.
Now it has become a Citysafe haven - part of a project run by charity London Citizens which was inspired by the Mizens.
Under the scheme, shops and businesses pledge to report all crime and antisocial behaviour to the police while also offering their premises as places of refuge for young people in danger.
The scheme has already been taken up by more than 250 businesses across the capital, including at Lewisham Shopping centre and the council’s Catford civic centre.
Jimmy’s dad Barry Mizen said: "The Citysafe havens were in response to Jimmy's death so, really, it's come to where it is supposed to be.
"This could almost be the focal point of the whole scheme."
Those who attended the haven launch included Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock and borough commander Detective Chief Superintendent Jeremy Burton.
