A 10-YEAR-OLD girl from Penge has died after being hit by a lorry.
Latoya Smith was taken to hospital this morning (January 26) with serious injuries after being struck by the lorry in East Dulwich at around 8am.
Doctors at Kings College Hospital in Denmark Hill were unable to save the youngster and she was pronounced dead at 8.44am.
Police say a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.
Sergeant Simon Seeley, from the Met’s traffic collision investigation unit, said: “This incident happened at a busy time and lots of people will have witnessed this terrible tragedy.
“It is crucial that we establish the events that led up to this young child's death and we appeal for anyone who saw this collision to get in touch.
“In particular, there were several people at a bus stop at the location, who kindly rushed to the assistance of the child before the ambulance arrived, we would very much like to speak to all of them."
