1938 – Kristallnacht, or Night of (Broken) Glass took place. Nazis burned 267 synagogues and destroyed thousands of Jewish homes and businesses in Germany.
1970 – The Great Wall of China opened to the public.
1998 – It was reported that every tree in Paris was to be fitted with a microchip that would report on its health.
2001 – One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest author Ken Kesey died.
2002 – TV presenter Nick Owen was turned away from the bar at Luton Town FC that was named after him. The bar was busy and the doorman did not know who he was.
2005 – Former TV magician Paul Daniels learned that his waxwork was to be melted down because it scared children.
