A 29-year-old man has died after the car he was driving crashed into a central barrier on the A2.
The incident happened between M2 J1 Rochester and A227 Gravesend at around 2.30am today (September 26).
The car, a black VW Tiguan, was travelling on the coastbound carriageway near the slip road for the A289 towards Wainscott before it crashed with the central barrier and a bridge parapet.
Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended, and the driver was pronounced dead shortly after.
His next of kin have since been informed.
Closures were put in place as the incident was dealt with which caused severe delays on the M2 towards London.
The A2 has now open in both directions and all traffic has returned to normal.
Anyone who witnessed the crash and has not yet spoken to the police, is urged to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538, quoting reference SM/DGC/099/24.
A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “Officers are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a fatal collision on the A2 near Rochester.
“At 2.30am on Thursday 26 September 2024, a black VW Tiguan was travelling on the coastbound carriageway near the slip road for the A289 towards Wainscott.
“It collided with the central barrier and a bridge parapet.
“Patrols and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene where the driver, a 29-year-old man, was confirmed deceased. His next of kin have been informed.”
