I tried a popular Wimbledon restaurant and the whole thing was a real culinary experience with seafood and Indian masala tea tasting.
Just a short walk from Wimbledon Theatre you’ll find Bombay Delight, a vibrant and open restaurant serving up a huge menu of cocktails, weekend brunches and authentic Indian dishes.
If you’re looking for a good pre or post theatre spot in Wimbledon, this restaurant is great for both intimate gatherings or larger parties, offering plenty of space for big groups.
theatre I had garnered enough appetite to try some Indian fare.
I was recently invited to try their menu and after a short walk from theThe menu is quite vast, offering both classic dishes like tandoori grill, biryani and masala curries, along with their popular seafood experience, where you get to pick your seafood off the trolley as well as the method of cooking, seasoning sauce and sides it comes with.
Their cocktail menu was also very broad, with over 40 cocktails to choose from, ranging from house specials to classics, whether you want a classic Expresso Martini or an Agostini there’s plenty on the menu.
We first began by ordering some house special cocktails, including the Pear Me cocktail served with Bombay Gin, Rosemary, Pear and Tonic water, before getting stuck in with some starters.
We decided to go for a classic Onion Bhaji dish along with the Tandoori Mushrooms, which were stuffed with an Indian cheese and cooked with malai sauce.
This was one of the best things I tried and I’d revisit this place just to eat them again, the taste was so rich with a really creamy centre.
For mains we both decided to try the seafood platter, settling on a cut of salmon with a tikka masala sauce and a cut of white fish with a more spicy taste, the server went through all the options and even added some recommendations of their own which really helped us to pick.
If you like food experiences, this definitely felt like one and it’s something I’ve never experienced before when dining at an Indian restaurant.
We also got some sides to share, with the obligatory servings of naan bread and yellow rice, and by the end we had to undo our belts with the pending food coma feeling sweeping in.
But I did manage to find room to try another cocktail, which was the Pina Coletta, as well as the Rasmalai Cake – a staple Indian cake served with saffron, pistachios and cardamon milk.
Finally we finished the evening with a serving of traditional Masala tea, which is commonly served in India, which was warm and comforting with a delicious mix of spices.
All in all, it was a real treat for the palette and it’s somewhere I’d visit again the next time I find myself in Wimbledon.
