The team behind The Tamil Prince, one of London’s most beloved Indian eateries, is preparing to open its first restaurant south of the river - Tamila.
Opening on Clapham’s Northcote Road on Tuesday, October 1, Tamila marks their first venture south of the river.
This new standalone concept moves away from the “Indian pub” style the owners are known for, evolving from its beginnings at Hackney Bridge’s food hall to a full restaurant in Clapham.
After refining the menu in a dynamic food hall setting, Tamila will be the brand’s first permanent site in south London.
The menu, curated by co-founder and executive chef Prince Durairaj, reflects his South Indian roots, showcasing dishes from Tamil Nadu and across the subcontinent.
While roti and curries remain at the heart of the offerings, diners can expect exciting new additions, including specials cooked in the tandoor for authentic Indian flavours.
The restaurant will also feature an expanded bread selection, including Garlic coriander naan, Kulcha naan, and Peshwari naan, alongside their signature flaky roti.
Other menu highlights include:
- A dedicated dosa section featuring Chilli cheese, Mutton uttapam, and Masala dosa
- A variety of snacks like Chicken lollipops, Fried baby sweetcorn, and Gobi 65 Masala Poori (puffed wheat bread served with coconut chutney and potato masala).
Tamila will also offer a curated drinks menu with Indian-spiced cocktails such as the Gunpowder Margarita, Tamil Negroni, and Charcoal Old Fashioned, alongside their house Tamila lager and a selection of draught wines.
With seating for 50 indoors and additional outdoor seating in warmer weather, Tamila is open 7 days a week from October 1, 2024.
Bookings are now open, and space for walk-ins will be limited.
Chef Prince Durairaj shared his excitement, saying: “We’re thrilled to bring Tamila to Clapham.
“This is about more than just opening a new restaurant – we’re elevating the curry house experience.
“We can’t wait for you to try what we’ve been working on.”
