A popular 65-acre garden with a 16th-century house has welcomed a new Butterfly Garden this summer.
The new London Butterfly Gardens opened last week (August 6) in Bexley’s Hall Place & Gardens, a 65-acre landscaped garden featuring a Tudor house and lake.
The new space, created by Matthew Simmonds and Neck Best, features a “naturalistic space” for visitors to learn about the various different species of butterflies housed in the gardens.
The gardens have been created to mimic a tropical climate with temperatures set to 28 degrees and humidity levels up to 80 percent.
The butterfly house is one of only three in London, marking it as a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.
Alongside the opening of the new butterfly gardens, the event also opened a new retail space featuring local crafts, butterfly memorabilia and gardening supplies.
The opening was attended by a number of council officials including Councillor Sue Gower MBE JP, the Mayor of Bexley and her Consort, Darren Tobin, Leader of the Council being among them.
Cabinet Member for Place Shaping, Councillor Cafer Munur, said: “The London Butterfly Gardens is a fantastic addition to Hall Place & Gardens. It offers both beauty and education, making it a perfect destination for families and nature lovers. We are thrilled to have this unique attraction right here in South East London.”
Visitors to Hall Place & Gardens can also visit a number of other attractions including the Jambs Owl Experience, where visitors can interact with an owl, or the Miniature Railway, where you can travel around the gardens by train.
Entry to the Butterfly Gardens costs £7.50 for adults, £6.50 for children and £2.50 for under 5s if pre-booked online, or up to £1 more if you pay on the day.
