A south east London food market has been rated as the UK’s favourite - with 301,000 Google searches a month.
A new study by Capital on Top has revealed that Borough Market, near London Bridge in Southwark, was rated in the top spot.
The rating is based on it being the most popular on Google, as well as having the highest number of posts on Instagram and TikTok.
Five other London food markets made the list including Seven Dials Market in third place, Boxpark Shoreditch in fifth place and Briton Village Market in sixth place.
These were the top ten of the UK’s favourite food markets:
- Borough Market, London

Alongside being the UK’s favourite, Borough Market was also ranked as the “most Instagrammable” food market with a whopping 555,509 Instagram posts.
The food market offers convenient travel links to and from London via National Rail, London Underground services, and ferry services from London Bridge City Pier.
Borough Market dates back over 1,000 years, when a market was first set up at the foot of London Bridge, however it has been on the current site since 1756.
The market features 100 stalls, restaurants, bars and shops offering a variety of food options from classic Sunday Roasts to Taiwanese street food.
Visitors can shop from a range of traders selling produce, food and gifts from 17 categories from fresh fruit and veg to beauty and artisan baked goods.
The ethos of the market, now a charity run by a board of volunteer trustees, is to showcase food that is good for people and the environment without compromising on taste.
The market is also home to Roast, which was rated in the Sunday Times' list of the UK’s top 25 roast dinners, as well as Turnips with Tomas Lidakevicius, which received three rosettes in the AA Rosette Awards 2023, offering an alfresco dining experience using locally sourced produce.
Some of the best restaurants in Borough Market, according to reviewers on TripAdvisor, include Maria’s Market Café which received a 4.5-star rating, and Richard Hayward’s Oysters with a 4.5-star rating.
Some of the current traders in the spotlight this month include Alpine Deli, serving produce from the Northern Italy region of South Tyrol, and Heritage Cheese, which was voted by the public as Slow Food Cheesemonger of the Year in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
