If you’re looking for a tranquil London staycation this spring, Richmond offers scenic walks, independent shopping, and riverside views.
I was recently invited to stay at Richmond Hill Hotel, located on Richmond Hill within a short walk of Richmond Park, the hotel offers a chic and sophisticated location for your next getaway.
Being in Richmond bordering Surrey, the area is still within London, located in Zone 6, offering convenient travel links from Central London via National Rail and Overground services, but is still far enough to feel like a countryside escape.
The hotel dates back to 1729 and was later remodelled in 2019, retaining its Georgian charm, featuring a restaurant, lounge, outdoor terrace and 24-hour gym.
The hotel also has dog friendly rooms, and being so close to Richmond Park it makes a great spot for a weekend away with your pooch.
We stayed in one of the Georgian Deluxe Rooms with views overlooking Richmond and the nearby River Thames, which had a spacious double bed and bathroom, complete with a walk-in shower and roll top bath well-stocked with luxury Penhaligon's toiletries to use during your stay.
After a brief rest in our room, we were keen to explore the local area whilst the weather remained promisingly clear, the hotel is situated on Richmond Hill and is nearby Richmond Park where you can find roaming deer and 2,500 acres of land to explore.
If you feel like splashing the cash, Richmond Hill also has an array of independent shops nearby with everything from bookshops and florists to luxury clothing stores.
After a walk around Richmond Park, we were sent back to the hotel by the inevitable outbreak of rain before heading down for dinner at 144 on the Hill, the on-site restaurant at the Richmond Hill Hotel.
The restaurant offers a seasonally changing menu alongside a broad selection of bespoke and classic cocktails as well as wines and spirits.
The meal began with some cocktails including a classic Clover Club – a rarity on cocktail menus in my experience and one of my personal favourites on account of its light flavour and slight tartness.
For starters we opted to try their crusty warm artisan bread served along with a salted whipped butter, and it came freshly baked.
For mains, we then went for the heritage vegetable tart served with goats’ cheese, curried chickpeas, and lemon dressing, along with the Caribbean spiced chicken with edamame, little gem, and tarragon verde with a side of garlic potatoes served with chive crème fraiche.
The potatoes were a favourite, with a crispy outer layer, and the chive creme fraiche was delicious.
Finally for desserts, we opted for the vanilla panna cotta served with rhubarb compote, along with their take on a classic crème Brulé served with candied peaches.
Both desserts were very flavourful, but the panna cotta was a favourite of mine and something I would order again.
After eating we retired to our room to relax and unwind before bed, taking full advantage of the walk-in shower.
Breakfast at the 144 on the Hill restaurant consisted of a breakfast buffet including continental breakfast options, fruits, hot foods, breads and pastries.
The breakfast buffet had one of the best selections of fresh produce and fruits that I have ever seen, with a delicious fruit salad and a range of fruits.
24 hours at the Richmond Hill Hotel was relaxing, perfect for anyone looking for a quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of London without the inconvenience of travelling too much further afield.
@itsfashioneyesta Come with me for a stay at @Richmond Hill Hotel (PR) . . . I was recently invited for an overnight stay and dinner at the beautiful Richmond Hill Hotel for a feature on The Resident. The hotel is so beautiful and is within a very peaceful part of Richmond, it’s also dog friendly and the restaurant has a really great selection of cocktails on offer as well. I would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a little staycation in London that feels like you’re in the countryside. . . . #Richmond #VisitRichmond #RichmondHill #RichmondHillHotel #Travel #TravelJournalist #LifestyleJournalist #Lifestyle #London #LondonLife #LondonGirl #LondonDiaries #PrettyLittleLondon #LondonJournalist #LondonFood ♬ Sunshine - WIRA
