Everyone in London loves a good view and luckily the capital isn’t short of roof terraces, restaurants, or viewpoints to nab one.
It’s rare, though, that you can get all three-in-one, and not to mention getting views of multiple of London’s landmarks at the same time.
Mercer Roof Terrace provides an opportunity to see the dome of St Paul’s Cathedral all the way to the glass tip of The Shard – with the London Eye and more in between.
You can eat outside in the open air, book an outdoor igloo or pod, or eat and drink inside at the bar where there are floor-to-ceiling glass doors.
Considering how stunning the terrace and views are, in my opinion it’s a shame not to eat outside, and you can book the igloo or pods specifically for when it’s cold.
It was freezing when I went to the terrace with my mum last Saturday evening, who was in London for a celebratory Mother’s Day weekend.
I like to go to all the best places with her - my mum loves a good London view, likes to feel like a tourist seeing all the sights, eating all the good food and taking all the different tubes.
We sat in one of the pods on the terrace, which we were thankful for seeing as typically it was raining.
It was cosy with fluffy cushions on the chairs, blankets, a heater and even a disco ball hanging from the top, and being under cover didn’t take away from the views or the beauty of the terrace or surroundings.
My mum, who doesn’t drink, had a virgin mojito, while I had a pina colada-style drink to start with.
We enjoyed these over our starters of grilled broccoli and smoked salmon to share – which came in a beautiful dome shape paired with cucumber.
The waiters and waitresses were extremely helpful in advising my mum, who has a gluten allergy, on what she can and can’t eat, and they were thorough with ensuring she was happy and safe with what she was ordering.
We both ordered the Scottish pan roasted halibut – my mum asked for hers completely plain, and I had mine still with the cauliflower and leaks that it came with.
It was absolutely delicious, melt-in-the-mouth, and was cooked to perfection – as with the chips which made for the perfect accompaniment.
We devoured our meals, catching up, chatting away and appreciating the views.
For dessert we both went for the apple and blackberry crumble with a custard cream.
This was out-of-this-world, and I can assure you that it’s true that dessert is eaten by the heart and not the stomach.
I paired this with a dessert cocktail which is made of vodka, white chocolate liquor, and comes with ICE CREAM, yes ice cream, on top.
It was a gorgeous evening, and I’d recommend it to anyone wanting the same.
