I tried a health-inspired menu at a restaurant in central London and had one of the most delicious desserts.
Located in the Westin London City Hotel on Upper Thames Street, Mosaic offers diners cosmopolitan dishes with health and nutrients in mind.
As part of Dry January, Mosaic have collaborated with Nunc Drinks to create a pairing menu with healthier dishes and Kombocha drinks.
The menu features six main options to choose from, along with two desserts and a selection of recommended Kombucha pairings.
Now I will admit, I had never tried Kombucha up until this point and I am aware of the massive following it has.
Personally, for me, I am more of a mocktail person and found the taste rather like flavoured fizzy water which was something I didn’t really expect.
There were six different flavours to choose from, so if you are someone who likes the taste of Kombucha this might be of appeal to you.
We ordered our mains and got them within 15 minutes.
For mains I tried the Manuka Honey-Glazed Salmon with sauteed rainbow chard, almond pesto, and dashi broth.
My plus one tried the Pan-seared Chicken Breast with corn puree, wild mushrooms, confit cherry tomatoes, dill and jus gras.
The salmon was actually very good, with a crispy layer on the outside along with the sweet flavouring of the honey.
The rainbow chard gave the dish a nice crunch and it was one of those dishes that made you feel that you were quite literally “eating health.”
The chicken dish was also very nice and went well with the creaminess and sharpness of the tomatoes.
For dessert I tried the Pumpkin Cheesecake with cardamom and pumpkin seed ice cream. Being a pumpkin lover myself I was very excited to try this dish and it didn’t disappoint.
It went someway between a pumpkin pie with the creaminess of a cheesecake, you could definitely taste the pumpkin flavour with the rich cardamom taste.
The ice cream was also very good and honestly I hope this dish is brought back to the restaurant on their regular menu, as it was one of the best desserts I think I’ve had in recent times.
My plus one tried the plant-based Spiced Pear Crumble with cinnamon ice cream, which was also very good and had more the consistency of a cake than a crumble.
The tastes were rich with the warm baked texture and the pieces of baked pear, and it was such a warming and comforting dish that I did swipe a few extra mouthfuls unbeknownst to my plus one.
All in all, I think this menu offers some healthier but equally delicious dishes to enjoy throughout the month of January, if you’re looking for a new dining op
