Giving it a sad one out of five, one user suggested it is "bad for your health", writing: "This really bad smelling water means that walking along the river is bad for your health. I suggest no one be anywhere close to this polluted river."

Whilst another shared that although they had heard good stories on the Thames, they were left disappointed: "We read and heard good stories about the Thames. Look at it, it is full of filth. And that smell, aghhrrr!"

Others complained about the strong smell let off by the river, one calling it a "rotten egg", sharing: "It smells like rotten egg. Seriously, this bad smell and polluted water is giving out what we imagine this to be the open sewer."

Another visitor of the landmark was also not happy with the scene, as they wrote: "This bad smell water body is not good. Really bad smell means that you need a respiratory device that is industrial grade. Do not come near it."

Away from the smell, one gave it a poor review due to its "grey water" adding that it's in fact "not a river": "Grey water. The river is not a river. Bad smell. There are no people living in residential places around it. No one could."

One linked the River Thames to Londoner's love/hate relationship as they titled the piece "London's biggest sewer" writing: "If the title doesn't explain the love/hate relationship Londoners have with the Thames...by all means do go have a picnic at the water's edge during low tide."

The last person summed their thoughts on the Thames quite well, as they wrote: "The Thames is just a big dirty, fast-moving river. Boats were struggling up its very strong current.

"There are great places along the river, but as soon as you look over the rock walls it looks like it's just neglected. I don't think it is. It's probably just its looks so powerful and has a mud base."
