If there is one thing London is not known for, it's cheap rent. With the capital being one of the most desired places to live, the cost of living here is not cheap. 

Now, new figures have found that it costs renters an average of £1000 or more to rent a room in a houseshare across a third of London postcodes. 

It comes as the amount of £1000 postcodes across the region have more than quadrupled within the last year according to Spareroom. 

The flatshare app found that there were 33 postcodes where the cost to rent a room exceeded the £1000 mark, reports London Evening Standard. 

London house sharers can expect to pay around £1000 a month to live in some of the capital's most desirable spots, with the likes of Holloway N7, Chelsea's SW3 and SE11 Kennighton all topping the pricy end.

Altogether, the cost of an average room across London costs renters £952. 

A spokesperson for London Renters Union Liam Miller told London Evening Standard: "A single bedroom in a shared house should not cost £1,000 a month.

“While landlords see their wealth grow, millions trapped in the private rental sector are at breaking point. For moderate-income renters, the basics have become luxuries, while at the acute end of the sector, evictions are on the rise.”
