Greenwich has been revealed as the top independent hotspot for shops in south east London, according to research by Barratt London.
South east London is full of giant chains and well-known retailers, but there are also a grand number of independent shops, boutiques, and markets on offer too.
Barratt London’s latest study shows that Greenwich has a total of 224 independent shops overall.
Camden is the London borough with the most overall number of independent shops, with 273.
Westminster follows in second place with 261 shops and Hackney follows in third with 227 local shops and businesses.
Out of all of the boroughs across the city of London, Greenwich takes the crown for the most creative independent businesses with 76 shops.
The study also delved into which type of shops Greenwich has the most of, revealing Greenwich most popular independent shops are within the creative industry, with a grand total of 76 shops overall.
Greenwich Market is home to all the creative shops including Awahaus, Piau Art Gallery and Baish Designs.
Food and drink stores take second place with 74 in total, all these stores apart from one are located in Greenwich Market.
Greenwich Market is home to Chuckling Wings, BonBon Café, Finest Fayre and Ethiopian Vegetarian Food.

Clothing stores follow in third place with 18 independent shops.
You can find Bungu, Aequill, Aesop and Etchd in Broadway Market.
16 of the shops including Twisted Threads, Plain Bear and Little Knitz can be found in Greenwich Market.

“Shopping local allows you to pick up handmade items you wouldn’t find in giant chains and is the perfect way to find one-of-a-kind gifts.”
