A sinkhole has opened up in Crystal Palace closing a main road and causing traffic chaos.
Crystal Palace Road is closed both ways between Thicket Road and Lawrie Park Road after a void was discovered under the road surface.
Local buses are being diverted to enable emergency repairs to take place on the road.
There are also essential roadworks taking place on Thicket Road due to a burst water main, but it is not known as of yet if the two are related.
BeckenhamTown.us said on Twitter: “Be aware , Crystal Palace park road is closed between Thicket road & Lawrie park road, there are no buses running through Penge high street..”
And Richard George on Facebook said: “Just a quick warning on Thicket Road - possibly due to the sinkhole on Crystal Palace Park Road blocking that route, even more vehicles than usual appear to be driving along it the wrong way today.”
You should find alternative routes if you were planning on going this way today, and leave extra time for your journey.
