It is not a secret that London hospitals need more doctors and nurses, but what happens when one decides to go on Love Island?
Alex George, 27, is an A&E doctor at University Hospital Lewisham, but we don’t know many jobs that would allow an eight week holiday to appear on a reality TV show.
The Exeter University graduate had dreamed of being a doctor since he was just 13 years old.
In response to a News Shopper enquiry, a spokesman for Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust said: “Alex George is on our staff bank, which enables doctors to work flexibly.”
Last year the Care Quality Commission announced that Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust‘required improvement’.
The report said that this was because of “significant shortages of medical, nursing and allied health professional staff in most departments which were having an impact on delivery of care and patient safety.”
Island obsessives will know that Alex is having little to no luck finding love in the villa, prompting hundreds of women on Twitter to declare their own love for him.
It was Eyal and Zara who got the boot yesterday, taking Alex out of the danger zone once again, but when will he get a break?
Tonight's episode will see 12 new contestants enter the villa, so can the doctor finally find a girl that likes him?
