A local dad is opening a new coffee shop in Honor Oak to provide a cosy, social space to be enjoyed by everyone.
Nolan West, 41, the owner of Rise, is working hard at the moment to renovate the space at 108 Brockley Rise.
Rise will serve a huge range of coffee, yummy breakfasts, brunches and lunches.
Nolan said: “I have been doing the majority of renovations myself over the past couple of months."
He said the place needed a lot of attention - there was a leaking roof at the back, no heating at all and no mains hot water.
On the renovations, he said: “This has of course saved on costs but it is also something I have enjoyed and has allowed me to create and develop the look and feel of the place as I go along, something which I believe has been hugely beneficial as I am now close to finishing renovations and am delighted with the result.”
He said: “I live a couple of streets up from the unit and have one child at Stillness Infants and another starting this September, so when this vacancy arose I jumped at it.”
The family has been lucky enough to work with a local plumber and graphic designer.
After 12 years working in the oil and gas industry, Nolan’s job as a cost engineer finished last summer and when the space became available, he knew this was the right time.
Nolan has experience working in catering in the French Alps for seven years and also as a chef down in Devon, along with a business studies degree.
People can follow the progress of Rise on Instagram @rise_cafe, a website is in development as is a Facebook page so watch this space.
Rise will shortly be looking for like-minded friendly, hardworking staff to create that Hygge atmosphere Nolan and his family is looking for.
