The architects responsible for a massive new housing development in Erith have been chosen.
Architects Ash Sakula will design the new homes on the site of the former council depot in Erith.
Bexley Council has secured a £4.2M loan from the London Enterprise Action Partnership and a grant of £1.96M from the Mayor of London to deliver the new houses and to improve surrounding areas.
Robert Sakula, founding partner of Ash Sakula, said: “We are looking forward to testing our proposals for the Walnut Tree Depot site by listening and learning from the people of Erith.
"Together, we can build something there that helps make Erith a better and more beautiful place.”
The site has been vacant for years but work is now underway to bring new homes to the area and to provide direct access to the town centre.
A pedestrian subway will be replaced to make it a more direct and safer journey for those travelling from the town centre to the railway station.
Councillor Linda Bailey, Bexley’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Growth said: “The development of the Walnut Tree depot site, is part of an ongoing programme of regeneration, aimed at developing Erith into a thriving riverside community.
"We want to ensure that the design is community-led, and it was clear during the tender process, that Ash Sakula had the experience needed to deliver this.”
Ash Sakula has won ten RIBA Awards for Architecture and they will be expected to have a draft design for the Walnut Tree depot site finished in the next few months.
