Lewisham’s best and worst GP surgeries have been rated by patients in a new survey.

The GP Patient Survey is an annual England-wide survey that gathers data on patients’ experiences of their GP surgeries.

Questionnaires were completed by 4,048 Lewisham patients. Ipsos MORI administers the survey.

Lewisham was slightly below the national average for overall patient experience of their surgeries. The national average was 85 per cent and Lewisham scored 83 per cent.

Bellingham Green Surgery in Bellingham Green, Catford, had the highest patient satisfaction rating, with 95 per cent describing their experience of their GP surgery as good.

The lowest ranked was Wells Park Practice in Wells Park Rd, Forest Hill, with 64 per cent.

Michael Diamond, 59, is a patient of the Nightingale Surgery which got the second highest score with 94 per cent.

He said: "I am on the patients group and I have been a patient there for 25 years. I am a type one diabetic.

"The appointments system they use a mix of online, telephone and in person so there are no queues there. They phones are only answered by a person and not answered by a machine. If you’re ill the last thing you want to be is on the phone and listening to a machine.

"The receptionists are discreet and friendly. You never have to tell them exactly why you are ill."

Lewisham has 19 surgeries that fall below the national average of 85 per cent and 15 surgeries that exceed it.

Lewisham scored an average of 81 per cent for patients’ success in getting appointments. The national average is 84 per cent.

Nightingale Surgery of Handen Road, Lee, scored the highest in this category with 97 per cent and New Cross Health Centre of Goodwood Rd, New Cross, scored the lowest with 67 per cent.

On average, 62 per cent of people found it easy to reach their GP surgeries on the phone. The national average was 68 per cent.

Winlaton Surgery of Winlaton Rd, South Lewisham and Oakview Family Practice of Shroffold Rd, Downham, scored the highest in the category with 95 per cent, and Rushey Green Group Practice of Hawstead Rd, Catford, and Joint Wells Park Practice of Wells Park Road, Sydenham, scored the lowest with 26 per cent.
