Bromley Council’s Safeguarding Children Board has a new Chairman following a report that found the service ‘requires improvement’.
Jim Gamble QPM is the new independent chairman of the board after the Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) was found to require improvement by Ofsted inspectors.
He is currently the chairman of the board in City and Hackney, which is the only safeguarding board rated outstanding.
Executive member for care services Councillor Robert Evans said: “We need the right people in place to help us on our journey to excellence and I am delighted that Jim Gamble will be bringing his impressive experience in the field to Bromley by heading Bromley’s Safeguarding Children Board.
“Jim will use his energy, inspirational leadership and independent challenge to strengthen safeguarding practices and processes across the Borough.”
Cllr Evans added: “I want to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing chairman, Annie Callanan, for her work and commitment to Bromley over the past few years.
“Annie’s leadership enabled the Board to make a number of improvements and put a greater focus on safeguarding priorities, establishing good foundations for progress into the future.”
An Ofsted report, published in June, found that the Local Safeguarding Children Board needed to make several improvements.
In the same inspection it was reported that Bromley’s Children's Services were inadequate.
Mr Gamble will take up the chairman role on Monday, January 16.
