A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) said: "We used hydraulic rescue equipment and small tools to release the driver into the passenger compartment."
The driver, believed to be aged around 50 years old, was treated by crews from South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) before being taken to Princess Royal University Hospital in Farnborough.
A SECAmb spokesman said: "The man was unconcious when crews arrived.
"We cannot confirm whether this was as a result of the crash or if he collapsed at the wheel.
"He did not have any obvious injuries but was still not fully concious when he was taken to hospital."
Kent, Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance was also called but was stood down minutes later.
The driver has now been released from hospital with minor injuries.
There were no passengers on board the bus at the time.
Fire crews left the scene at about 9.15pm.

Glen Shuttleworth, head of operations, said: “I can confirm there were no passengers on board but the driver was taken to hospital - he has now been released with minor injuries.
“Our primary concern is for his welfare and he has been offered support. We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
