A Bromley Girlguide has made her voice heard during a debate about diversity in the Houses of Parliament.

Rebecca de Vanney, a member of 1st Chislehurst Senior Section, joined more than 200 participants as the House of Lords opened its doors for the debate, led by Baroness Frances D'Souza on Friday, December 4.

The 15-year-old described the event as "one of the best experiences".

She said: "Just to say you've been to Parliament is something, but to say I've been able to debate in front of so many people about something that is so important, is a life time achievement for me.

"It was amazing to sit there and listen to all the great opinions and ideas people were coming up with - and a privilege to meet the Lord Speaker Baroness D'Souza."

Rebecca, who is studying for GCSEs and is a coach at a local gymnastics club, was among just 70 members of Girlguiding to be selected to sit in the House of Lords debate.

She added: "My personal opinion on the debate is that Parliament should put quotas in place for the parties as well as add seats to both Houses to increase the diversity within Parliament itself."
