Greenwich Council has bitten off more than it can chew in its attempt to buy the Eltham branch of budget bakery Greggs.
The council had claimed it kneaded to buy the whole high street property to expand its proposed new cinema complex just a scone's throw away.
But Greggs was unable to find an alternative premises in the town centre, meaning the council can only buy a smaller piece of the site which is not used by the bakery - ensuring film fans can still buy a steak bake after the movie.
Under the new plan, approved by Cabinet Member for Regeneration Councillor Danny Thorpe, the council will buy the rear of the shop for an undisclosed sum, allowing the new cinema complex to have more space for deliveries and storage.
The council claims the design process for its six-screen cinema - housed in an old Poundland store bought by the council and agreed in principle by a planning board last year - is now at an "advanced stage".
