Goldsmiths alumni Alex James has promised to play the classics when Blur headline Hyde Park for the fourth time this month.
The bassist, who studied French at the university in New Cross where he met bandmate Graham Coxon, will bring a varied set list when they lead the line up at British Summer Time at Hyde Park on June 20.
He said: “We always like to mix up the set list and change it around a least a little, for every show.
“It makes it fun for us but it’s also better for the audience. But there are some favourites that we always do, it wouldn’t be a festival show without ‘Parklife’, ‘Boys and Girls’ or ‘Tender’ or even ‘Song 2’.”
The gig will be the fourth time the Brit Pop heroes play Hyde Park, where they wrote hit Parklife.
James said: “Hyde Park is absolutely part of our story. It’s home from home.
“And this year we’ve got our own ice-cream. If I bring my own deck chair, I’ll have the complete set. It looks like the weather’s going to be great so we’re looking forward to another perfect day.”
Blur’s new album – their first in more than a decade - The Magic Whip, was released earlier this year to a rapturous response from fans and critics.
Of the new material, James is most looking forward to performing Go Out live.
Aptly for a summer’s day, the album cover featured a dripping ice cream and foodie James is keen to tuck into his own Blur ice cream.
He said: “We are absolutely going to have a Blur ice cream – the magic whip – in Hyde Park.
“What does it taste of – it’s vanilla with a raspberry ripple – just like it is on the album… wait til it’s melting a bit and then go for it. Delicious.”
