Sainsbury's sandwich supplies in London have been savaged by a fire at their distribution centre.
A fire at the Sainsbury's distribution centre in Lombard Wall, Charlton, on May 18 has meant that Sainsbury's local stores across London have been hit by a sandwich shortage.
This has disrupted the lunch patterns of many people in the capital.
A Sainsbury's shopper told News Shopper: "When I went there at lunchtime for a sandwich there was nothing, nothing at all, the shelves were empty like they'd been cleaned out.
"It was me and a small crowd of people, all standing there, disappointed and confused.
"When I asked one of the staff what had happened she said it was because there had been a fire at the depot.
"It was quite sad, how can one fire bring everything to a standstill?
"It might sound ridiculous but it ruined my day a bit, I had to go to Morrisons but they don't have a £3 meal deal."
The fire destroyed 10 per cent of the distribution centre and six lorries.
A Sainsbury's spokeswoman said the fire had impacted all deliveries across London "We're working hard to minimise disruption and get deliveries through for our customers.
"Product availability should be back to normal over the next few days, and we apologise for any inconvenience this has caused."
