Residents in Thamesmead are being driven crazy by a mysterious beeping noise. 

Laura Tamaj, 32, of Whinchat Road, complained of a recurring beep that is sending her and neighbours "bonkers". 

The infuriating sound is said to occur about every 30 seconds all day and all night.

Ms Tamaj, who suffers from sensitive hearing, said: "The noise is not loud but it’s very, very irritating. I’ve been hearing it for about two months.

"Some of my neighbours have mental health problems and it’s very annoying for them."

Residents have tried in vain to find the source of the nuisance, although there are suspicions that it may be coming from Crossrail work in Abbey Wood.
