DARTFORD MP Gareth Johnson with the Prime Minister David Cameron to discuss options for a Lower Thames Crossing.

The meeting was also attended by a small group of local MPs whose constituencies would all be impacted by the two remaining options for the Lower Thames Crossing namely options A (next to the existing crossing) and C (East of Gravesend) which took place on Tuesday.

Gareth, who is opposed to any further crossing being located in Dartford, said after the meeting “I made it clear to the Prime Minister that Option A is not viable in my opinion. I explained to him that Dartford residents already suffer enough from the existing crossing both because of congestion and pollution.

"Residents are sick and tired of the existing Dartford Crossing and adding a further one would only exacerbate the problems that we experience.”

“The Prime Minister seemed to appreciate that Option A would offer no alternative to drivers in the event of difficulties arising on the crossing or M25.

"The removal of the toll booths in October is likely to have an impact on traffic flow locally and so I was keen for the Prime Minister to appreciate that this change would have an impact on traffic flows in to any future crossing.

"I am pleased that option B (at the Swanscombe peninsula) has already been ruled out by the Government as this would have jeopardised the proposed building of a theme park in that area.”

The meeting was also attended by Jackie Doyle Price, MP for Thurrock and Stephen Metcalfe MP for Basildon and East Thurrock together with Tracey Crouch MP and Adam Holloway MP.
