A DOG owner has spoken of the terrifying moment she and her puppy came under attack from a rampaging Staffy cross in a busy Welling street.

Annie King, 26, was walking her Cocker Spaniel Archie in Upper Wickham Lane when the cross between a Pitbull and Staffordshire Bull Terrier suddenly grabbed her pooch by the throat.

In her desperate 10-minute struggle to prize her 18-month-old from the jaws of the vicious dog she was bitten on the hand, arm and foot in front of a crowd of horrified onlookers outside Tesco Express.

She told News Shopper: “It was like a massacre, there was blood everywhere.

“I was just walking my dog and I saw a man on his mobile phone with what I thought was his dog gesturing with his hands to stay there.

“All of a sudden the dog came running over and forced Archie on his back and grabbed him by the throat.

“My dog was screaming like a fox- my neighbours could hear them.

“It was so powerful. He was throwing him round like a rag doll. There was about 20 people trying to get him off.

“I was dragged off for my own safety and I looked down I could see Archie on his back with the dog’s jaw locked on his throat. I thought ‘he’s not going to leave until he kills him.’”

The quick-thinking owner of nearby Starshine Dry Cleaners came to the rescue when he grabbed a belt out of his car used it to strangle the rampaging collarless dog into submission.

Miss King, who lives in Church Road, yards from the attack: “He saved me and my dog’s life.

“It could have bitten my face off.

“It was so humbling how people put themselves in danger to help other people.

“I can’t thank them enough.”

Archie was rushed to a vets in Belvedere suffering from at least 10 puncture wounds down his left paw and shoulder. The harness he was wearing was completely ripped to shreds.

Miss King needed to go to hospital for five stitches in her hand and treatment on her bloodied knees and foot and was off work for a week.

She added: “It was so horrendous. Me and the whole community are tramautised by what happened.

“I’m frightened to leave the house in case I see another dog.

“I’ve never seen anything like it in my life – it was so, so bad.”
