ODEON Cinema has exchanged contracts committing it to open a seven screen multiplex in Orpington next year.
Alongside the cinema on the site of the former job centre in the town centre there are also plans for three restaurants and four large shops.
The site owners are also talking to a hotel operator and a number of gym companies to see if they would be interested.
The Walnuts shopping centre was purchased in September 2011 by Miller Developments and Middle Eastern investors, advised by investment managers Ellandi.
Neil Finnie, of Miller Developments, said: “Odeon’s commitment is a real vote of confidence in the potential of Orpington town centre and we will shortly commence work on this development that will change the face of the town centre.”
Mike Wimble, of Ellandi, added: “Thriving town centres are not just about retail any more.
“Bringing these complimentary uses into the town that already has a leisure centre and college at its heart, will boost footfall and give locals the town they deserve.”
