MEMBERS of the public have been praised for giving first aid to a Bromley police community support officer after she suffered a vicious dog attack.
The PCSO from the Cray Valley West Safer Neighbourhood Team was on patrol in Rookery Gardens, St Mary Cray, at 12.15pm on December 5 when two terrier type animals ran out from an alleyway beside a house and began to attack her.
They bit her several times on her arms and legs, causing her to fall to the floor and continued even after she was on the ground.
The dogs were seized by officers and are now in a specialist animal unit.
Some members of the public gave first aid to the PCSO and comforted her.
She was taken to Princess Royal University Hospital, in Farnborough, and received treatment for the bite wounds, scratches and bruises to her arms and legs.
The 32-year-old female owner of the dogs has been questioned by police for having dogs dangerously out of control in a public place and the animals will now be destroyed.
Head of Bromley's Safer Neighbourhood Teams Chief Inspector Carron Schusler said: "This was a terrifying attack on a young officer who was simply out patrolling her beat.
"I would like to thank all the members of public who came forward to give first aid at the scene and comfort her until the ambulance arrived."
The young PCSO is off work recovering from her injuries.
