A SHOOTOUT which left an innocent woman dead after being caught in the crossfire has shocked her community.
Care worker Magda Pniewska was killed outside Stunell House, John Williams Close, New Cross.
Witnesses to the shooting at around 6.20pm on Tuesday (October 2) have said a man in the passenger side of a red Volkswagen Polo and another man standing at the top of the car park steps began firing at each other.
Ms Pniewska, 26, was caught in the crossfire while on her way home from Manley Court Nursing Home in John Williams Close.
New Cross safer neighbourhood panel chairman Dorian Williams said: "As a community we are shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Magda Pniewska and express our deepest sympathy to her friends and family.
"The fact that gang feuds now start to claim innocent lives in New Cross Gate should serve as a final call for the police, Lewisham Council and other agencies to make it their top priority to tackle the gang and gun culture in the area.
"The killing of Magda demonstrates that together, we the community, the police and the council, can and must do more."
Detectives from Operation Trident, which investigates gun crime in the black community, are investigating the murder.
