For the next time you fancy a curry, there's a plethora of Indian restaurants in south London.
Whether you want to have brunch with friends, compete in an all-you-can-eat Pani Puri competition, or try a five course gourmet Indian tasting menu there’s plenty of choice.
Babur, Forest Hill
If it’s gourmet Indian food with an experimental twist you seek, with a smattering of themed cocktails, Babur in Forest Hill is a must-try this summer.
This multi-award-winning restaurant was even featured in the Michelin Guide back in 2021 and has been a part of the south east London scene for 39 years.
To mark their 39th anniversary, Babur is currently hosting a celebratory five course tasting menu up until September 15.
The menu features dishes like tandoori prawn, swordfish tikka, spiced jersey potato vada, coriander and spinach flour cake, chicken stew with sauteed onions, and Hapus mano kulfi for dessert.
Alongside food, they also have a wide selection of crafted cocktails like their famous Currytini and Santra Pauwa – a special 39th anniversary cocktail made with Himalayan dry gin, tangerine cordial, lime juice and orange oil.
The tasting menu will be served up until September 15 priced at £49.95, or £74.95 with wine parings.
Everest Inn, Blackheath
Serving a fusion of Northern Indian and Nepalese cuisine, this multi-award winning Blackheath restaurant packs a punch when it comes to flavour.
Some of the restaurant’s most popular items include signature dishes like the samosa chaat and scallops along with dishes like lamb shank, lakeside fish and Hariwali lamb.
The inside pays tribute to the Nepalese roots of the business from the artwork on the walls to the rack of spices.
Along with food, they also have a cocktail menu with cocktails inspired by the flavours of the different regions of Nepal.
Cinnamon Bazaar, Richmond
Fancy seeing how many Pani Puris you can eat in two minutes?
Richmond’s Cinnamon Bazaar is currently hosting what has been called the “first ever” Chaat Challenge, where you’ll have two minutes to stuff in as many of this popular street food as you can for a chance to take your place on top spot of the leaderboard.
The winner with the highest number of Pani Puris eaten by the end of the challenge in September will be able to bring five guests to eat as many chaat dishes as they would like
Restaurant owner Vivek Singh made chaat, a popular Indian street food, a key part of the restaurant and today it’s a firm favourite among many diners.
The Chaat Challenge will be held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday up until September 1, with tickets priced at £10.
But if you still have room for more you can also try their regular menu, with delicious dishes like their popular Lamb Rogan Josh Shepherds Pie and their Naughty Dreamy Paneer.
Bombay Delight, Wimbledon
Just a short walk from Wimbledon Station you’ll find Bombay Delight, a vibrant and colourful restaurant serving up popular Indian street food dishes, along with a wide selection of themed cocktails and brunch on the weekends.
The menu features a mix of classics like tikka masala, along with lesser-known Indian dishes like scallops curry, whether you fancy trying an old favourite or want to be a bit more adventurous.
It’s not just the menu that’s vibrant, so is the décor, as the restaurant also features a “wall gallery” featuring a ton of colourful artwork to admire whilst you eat.
If the weather is nice you can also sit outside in the restaurant's covered outdoor dining area to enjoy your meal.
