Wisteria season is upon us and south east London has some Instagram worthy locations where you can spot it this month.
Wisteria season has arrived in London with many Instagrammers and photographers alike flocking to photo locations to capture the popular spectacle.
Wisteria, part of the Fabaceae family, is a climbing flower that blooms in late spring and is recognisable by its fragrant scent and its light purple or white colours.
Well Hall Pleasaunce, Eltham
Located in Eltham, Well Hall Pleasaunce is a popular spot to visit all year round but particularly during the spring and summer months.
The gardens feature a walkway where you’ll find a pagoda covered with wisteria to photograph.
Why not stop off at the Tudor Barn located within the gardens, this historic gastropub is surrounded by a moat and is a great spot to enjoy food and drink with both indoor and outdoor seating.
Eltham Palace, Eltham
Another location you can find wisteria in Eltham is Eltham Palace and Gardens, an opulent palace dating back to the 13th century and later the party home of the Courtauld family in the 1930s.
You can find wisteria growing up the stone column pergolas located towards the east of the palace, with views of the Tudor parts of the castle as well as the moat.
Beckenham Place Park, Lewisham
Beckenham Place Park in Lewisham is a popular spot to find wisteria, which can be found growing in abundance in several locations around the park, including the walled garden near the car park.
Beckenham Place Park boasts 95 acres of land to explore and is a popular spot to visit on account of its historic buildings, woodlands, lakes and gardens to explore.
Sexby Garden, Peckham
Located in Peckham Rye Park, Sexby Garden offers visitors a chance to see wisteria which has been planted to climb up a tunnel walkway featuring a pergola.
The park dates to 1894 when it was first opened and was created to resemble an Old English Garden.
